Broken relationships

Brenda Cannon HenleyBy Brenda Cannon Henley
The world suffers from broken relationships of many kinds and involving people from every spectrum of the globe. Parents vie with each other and with children because of sin. Siblings hate and fight with each other because of sin. Murders, robberies, rapes, and incidents of abuse and incest occur because of the human sin nature.

Our sin has broken our relationship with God and we have violated his law. We were born into sin and will never know true happiness without restoring that relationship with God that is the foundation for our being. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way.” (Isaiah 53:6)

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God.” (Isaiah 59:2)

When our relationship with God is not right, it causes problems in every area of our life – Marriage, careers, finances, children, relationships, and so forth. We might not be aware that it is this wrong relationship with our Creator that causes so many other issues in our lives.

Man comes up with various avenues or ways to cope with the problems rather than admitting their sin nature and turning to God.

There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 16:25)

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” (James 1:14)

Man attempts to justify himself by offering excuses to God. Some are sad. Some are funny. Some are almost unbelievable.

After 50 years in ministry, I have heard many of them often spoken in sincerity. “My mother and father are Christians, so I am, too.” “It doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you are sincere.” “I will give up all my bad habits.” “I will turn over a new leaf.” “I will work really hard and earn my way to salvation.” “I will be religious and go to church.”

None of these pleas will work. Jesus has already taken care of your sin problem (and mine) by dying on the cross, being buried, and rising again. We simply must trust Him and His finished work for our salvation.

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

God has already done His part to restore our relationship to Him. He took the initiative. Now, He waits for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us.

Once our relationship with God is sound and fulfilling, all other relationships will benefit.

Please talk to a pastor, youth leader, teacher, or friend if you feel you would like to trust Christ. They will be honored to show you verses from Scripture that will help you.
