Cabin Fever

We’re going on Day 5 of Hurricane Harvey. I know my husband wishes I had gone back to work today, but guess what? I’M NOT GOING!! Before the storm hit, our family offered refuge at their houses – Pearland and League City. “No, we’ll be fine, we’ll leave if they tell us to.” We put anything that could blow into the garage, tied down outdoor furniture and sand-bagged the front door. We stocked up on all the important stuff – wine, beer, water, the freezer is full, the generator is fixed, no problem. We even went around the neighborhood to tie down things they overlooked.

The family called every day at least once a day, that’s a lot of calls, we have a pretty big family. Now, the tables have turned. With all the flooding in the Houston area, we call them every day. And now we see there is a storm heading for our North Carolina family.

We kept busy here, moved furniture all around the house – the bunk beds moved upstairs, the daybed moved downstairs. Totally changed the furniture layout in one of the bedrooms, which then created the need to move pictures in that bedroom which created touch up painting.

With a major garage sale coming up at our daughter’s, we finally went up to the attic to remove the queen size bed frame that used to belong to our younger daughter when she was in college 17 years ago. Yes, 17 years ago! Why I’ve been hanging onto it all these years, I have no idea.

We also boxed up the set of dishes I purchased in Italy 9 years ago. They’ve been occupying space for years in a really valuable bottom drawer in the kitchen. Wow, happy to see those go. My husband has been very busy loading all this stuff into the car for transport sometime this week, if we can ever get off the Peninsula! We did venture out of the house once to go to The Big Store, we desperately need 3 switch plate covers and a six pack of diet cokes. Yep, it was one of those much needed trips.

My husband’s safe now, he’s free to watch the golf channel to his heart’s content (after he set up the table for me to begin my puzzle). That’s right, I’m back at it again. Everyone’s safe now, no one will be hearing from me until I finish this thing.

Ya’ll rest up in the meantime and be safe!
