Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 3-17-2020

By Captain Bryan Brawner
It’s great to be back on the water and posting Galveston East Bay fishing reports again! This week we had successful spring break fun trips with lots of action for everyone. Whiting, speckled trout, and some black drum were all biting. Since we had a mild winter and early spring, the spring fishing patterns seem to be running a few weeks early with the bay water temperatures hovering in the low 70’s this week. Water clarity and conditions are all in good shape even in the East end of the bay. This doesn’t mean that we might have a few slow downs with frontal passages but everything will rebound quickly as long as we don’t have flooding rains.

There are a lot of smaller speckled trout widespread from marsh areas to shallower shell reefs. Whiting and black drum can be caught on most mid bay reefs. Fishing action should just get better now every week! I am looking for an outstanding April! If you have taken my class in the past, the late March/mid-April pattern is happening now. This is a prime time to take kids out fishing as most of the mid bay oyster reefs have lots of whiting and black drum which can give non stop action to keep them interested and successful. With the kids out of school, I still have some weekday openings in April.

Delino’s Bolivar Bait camp and Miss Nancy’s Bait have been open and have a pretty good supply of bait and tackle for this time of year. When driving in, stop and check out Miss Nancy’s Bait Camp for surf fishing bait and info and support our business which were hurt by the closure of Rollover.

This time of year we can run trips where the whole family can be successful with a large variety of fish. Email for questions and availability. Now is the time to book an East Bay Class with the prime fishing just around the corner.

For exact fishing locations and techniques, I am conducting one-on-one classes of the Galveston East Bay System. We will spend a half-day trip exploring that bay and the techniques and timing of fishing there. Bring your hand-held GPS and a map and note pad and I will further your knowledge of the bay and patterns for fishing in all of the seasons of the year. These classes include everything from locations to tackle and lure selection; thus have a lot of content. So, I limit them to 2 persons max at a time. Call 409-256-1265 for more information. We cover a lot of area and burn a lot of gas.

Text or call 409-256-1265 for availability of trips and to reserve your fishing adventure. You can also e-mail me [email protected] for updated fishing conditions and trip availability.
