Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 4-7-2020

Captain Bryan's Fishing ReportEverything remains about the same in the Bay
I haven’t been out this week and everything remains about the same in the Bay this week on reports and conditions. We have had a lot of wind and are looking for more this week. Good time to service your fishing equipment! Fishing near areas of tide movement on the protected shorelines has produced some solid trout for waders during the calm windows before disturbances and fronts. I plan to be out some this week and post a complete report afterwards. We have another front forecasted for the end of the week again unfortunately but this is a good time to get the wind over with!

I am guiding full time and am set up to withstand any downturn as long as necessary and remain ready to rock and roll as soon as we can go with upmost safety for my clients in mind.

Last Week’s Summary
Fish are in transition now and the bite has been very weather dependent. The winds have more impacts on the bay conditions than anything else with gusts from the west or southwest being the worse and shutting everything down quickly, even under favorable tide conditions. A good example was this week with Wednesday having prime conditions with specks hitting on the reefs but quickly changing to tough, rough conditions toward the end of the week. Soon though, the fronts will not be disrupting weather patterns every few days. The bait is abundant throughout the bay and I will be approaching my fishing plan like it is the first of May now. Like I said in my previous report, live shrimp fished under a popping cork will be hard to beat when fishing with kids. However, the black drum are thick on the reefs and you will catch a lot of them if you use shrimp. When targeting specks, I will mainly be using Down South Lures soft plastics. For those that have taken my class, we are in the pattern for late spring.
