Celebrating the life of David Good – A Good Man!

“It is not what we have in life that matters, but WHO we have in our life that matters.” (Author Unknown)
Family and friends filled the FOE Eagles in Crystal Beach to honor David Good. If ever the name fit the person that was Mr. Good. His love of family and friends was always present. He was Santa Claus for both the Chamber of Commerce and The Gulf Coast Market. Everyone wanted to talk with, and have a pictured made with, this kindly Mr. Claus (the beard was real). Dixie Rohan, his loved companion of 16 years, served often as charming Mrs. Santa Claus.

David believed in helping the environment and recycled diligently. That man could fix any car no matter the make or model. David knew his history. Talking politics was a favorite pastime. Even after he became ill, he still enjoyed company, and joked that he could now serve as a slimmed down Santa.

The Eagles Auxiliary organized this happy celebration. Even though there were not enough chairs for everyone to sit, there was more than enough delicious food for all. Jeanette Kuhn provided a thankful grace. Dixie thanked folk for coming, and invited people to share remembrances of David. Many responded with complimentary and funny anecdotes. Susan Shafer showed off her BE KIND shirt. The idea evolved from David’s MAKE AMERICA KIND AGAIN tee shirt. Young neighbor David Ivy spoke eloquently of his pleasure in visiting with Mr. Good.

While people were sad to say farewell, they had a wonderful time sharing memories. Family, friends, food and fellowship; David’s favorite things. After all, “It is WHO we have in our life that matters.” DAVID GOOD was someone who mattered and was truly a GOOD MAN!

Thank you for posting this Linda. Those of us that knew David made us just feel better just knowing him. We will miss David sharing his holiday spirt as Santa and having Dixie by his side as Mrs. Claus. Thank you to the Foe 3719 ladies auxiliary for hosting the large turnout to honor David Good. It was nice seeing Dixie and her family at the Eagles and to see just how much David meant to all of us.
