Chamber Elects Board Members

The Annual General Meeting and Board Elections for the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce was held on Tuesday night at Jose’s Restaurant. Attendees were treated to delicious trays of Jose’s quesadillas and taquitos. Greeting the members at the door were Prim Rennick, Cathy Hammond, and Shanna Hammond. President Brenda Flanagan opened the meeting with a list of accomplishments achieved by the Chamber in 2019.

First and foremost, membership is increasing, bringing more awareness and participation benefiting the peninsula. Brenda introduced the tiered membership this year. Thank you to the 4 Diamond Sponsors: Stingaree Restaurant, Swede’s Real Estate, Gulf Coast Market, and Lange’s Septic. Check the website for membership opportunities.

New this year is Business of the Month in which a local business is honored each month. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber Office or place your vote via the Chamber Facebook page. The business must be a Chamber Member to receive the recognition.

In governmental affairs, the Chamber has been instrumental in getting a Public Hearing and Community Work group concerning the “Coastal Spine”. Also a key force behind getting a meeting of local, county, and state officials and personnel to share information and concerns from “Jeep Weekend”. New beach rules are being developed within Open Beach guidelines by Galveston County to be presented for approval by GLO. Plus the ever-continued communication with TxDot on the Hwy 87 project.

The Chamber Facebook following has grown. Any business having a special that would like for the Chamber to post, please contact the Chamber Office or Sharon McCurdy.
