Bill Martin and Bob Cook of Driftwood Subdivision hosted their 1st Annual Chili Cook Off this past Saturday, October 27th! This is a follow-up to the Gumbo Charity Cook Off in April of this year hosted by Wayne and Diane Blanks.
The cool weather was welcomed as the cooks began early morning, firing up their Chili Pots, mixing their secret ingredients, in an effort to win the grand prize for their Charity of Choice! There were thirteen teams in the competition, each team donating $100 to enter. Judges, Ryan Dennard, Bill Gates and Robert Hobbs, deliberated for 40 minutes before returning downstairs to the crowd to announce the winners.
Third place went to Krewe de Mongoose and Second place went to “Got Chili”. The ultimate prize, First Place, went to Screamin’ Mimi, who just happened to win the grand prize in April for their gumbo – Cooks Extraordinaire!
Screamin’ Mimi is donating their $1,300 prize money to Bolivar Peninsula Community Outreach.
Thank you and Congratulations to all the participants! Stay tuned for our next event, A Barbecue Cook Off, hopefully this Spring.
