Christmas Bike Drive Underway

Each year, thanks to the support of generous sponsors and donors, bicycles are given to needy children on the Peninsula. Now in its 26th year, the shiny new bikes continue to bring joy and happiness to many children. There have been changes throughout the years to make the drive more efficient and effective, but the generosity of donors was always constant. Thousands of dollars have been raised to provide hundreds of bikes, and happy hearts for our local kids.

The Annual Christmas Bike Drive started in 1999 when peninsula resident Jack Harmon hopped from bar to bar collecting money to purchase bicycles for kids on the peninsula. He partnered with Constable Doug Considine to deliver the bikes just before Christmas. The program was a hit! After many years of being handled by the Constable’s Office, the program was turned over to Texas Crab Festival Charities. Thousands of dollars have been raised to provide hundreds of bikes, and happy hearts for our local kids.
