Christmas has come and gone

What a delightful trip we had to the Monterey Bay Peninsula over the holidays, compliments of our wonderful children – I can’t imagine a more appropriate gift. Last time we were there, we went on a whale watching exploration. The day before was when a massive humpback whale launched itself into a full breach and landed on top of a kayak carrying two onlookers making national news. This trip, the day before we went to the Aquarium is when a wild sea otter gave birth in an open-access pool at the Monterey Bay Aquarium making national news. I wonder what will happen next time we go?

Christmas was a hit, three lively grandchildren, 7, 5 and 3 years old. The living room was strewn with golf clubs, exercise mats, doll clothes and a karaoke machine. Hours of karaoke – You’re the One That I Want, Moon River, What Does the Fox Say, Let it Go, you name it. GO_1229-2We arrived home quite late on Saturday night, Pacific Time was in our system so we couldn’t think of going to bed too early. Promptly, at 10:45 pm, along comes a little critter out from hiding to make his rounds through the living room on his way to the gnawed through dog food bag in the pantry. Well, I’ll be darned! This little guy, and no telling how many of his other friends, have been enjoying Christmas at our house. Why not? I mean the Christmas lights come on at 6 every night, the tree is lit up, the outside lights all aglow, a stocked pantry – what more could a mouse ask for? Sorry Charlie, it’s “light’s out” for you!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.

Just wanted to give a great big thank you to Georgia & Tom from Jackie Cook. My own trip to California ended a week early due to a death in Jackie’s son in law early & had to fly home a week early & had to fly standby home. As I was sitting in the airport in San Diego wondering how I was getting to Crystal Beach, as my arrangements were made for the next week, when who should walk into the airport, but Tom & Georgia and after just a few minutes, my ride was arranged, what a blessing!
