Happy New Year! That would be Happy Lunar New Year which started on February 5, 2019 and is The Year of The Pig. The Pig is twelfth in the 12 year cycle of Chinese zodiac signs. Lucky colors for Pig Year are yellow, gray, brown and gold, and good numbers are 2, 5 and 8. Folk born with this zodiac sign are said to be considerate, responsible, independent and optimistic. They are generous and forgiving of other’s mistakes which helps them form harmonious interpersonal relationships. However, they will sometimes be lazy and not very active.

I do not know into which sign Kevin Le was born, but he is definitely not lazy or inactive. The owner of I LOVE NAILS works constantly to expand the services of his fine establishment. Kevin is a true example of The American Dream. He arrived in Alabama from Viet Nam in 1980. He opened Island Nails in Winnie in 2010, and in 2014 came to Crystal Beach. With the help of his lovely wife Mai, Kevin’s endeavors have been most successful.

Owners of businesses celebrate a ceremony to show respect for their land on the first day of each Lunar year. Chicken, fruit and various foods are laid out to honor and show gratitude. Since red is traditionally a color for luck, watermelons and red flowers are often part of the celebration. Mai is a believer in tradition. The first person to step on the land determines what type of luck you will have for the year. Mai and Kevin have invited me for 3 years to be their first customer. I guess they have had good fortune. Of course, they also gift me with tasty foods and presents.

Visitors to I LOVE NAILS must take time to visit with Junior. Junior is the fancy Flower Horn fish in a special aquarium. He hails from South Africa and is like a member of the Le family. Attention should be paid to the Kim Tien money tree. The number of leaves on a branch determine how well your year will progress. Usually there are 6 to 7 leaves on each stalk, but this year, Kevin’s money tree has a limb that sprouted 9 leaves.

The Year of the Pig, 2019, should be a very good year for Kevin and Mai. We wish them great success and a most CHUC MUNG NAM MOI!
