Crystal Corral Horse Camp

The Crystal Corral Stables hosted the Peninsula’s very first 3-day Horse Clinic. Fifteen girls, ages 9-14, arrived for 11:30 am check in Friday morning. One participant came as far away as San Angelo. The girls began preparation for the non-stop activities on the agenda. The first event began at 2:30 pm on Friday. Horses and riders saddled up for an obstacle course race, where each participant rode through and completed a series of 13 obstacles. The timed event required riders to guide their horse around barrels, through gates, and over jumps, and ended with the horse and rider bobbing for apples in a bucket of water.

Riders, and name of horse, in the order they placed:
Caroline on Laralie
Stephanie on Sam
Callie on Skipper
Natalie on Lacy
Carlee Jo on Honey
Cameron on Clyde
Sarah on Wren
Reigh-Ann on Legend
Kiley on Cracker
Madeleine on Finn
Alyssa on Blossom
Brooke on Rikko
Kaitlin on Dancer
Sabrina on Tobi
Bayla on Bubba

Ribbons were distributed and the horses were treated to a dip in the pond to cool off. Tacos for dinner and Karaoke rounded out the first day, and all were off to good night’s sleep, in anticipation of a busy Saturday.

Saturday, rise and shine – gotta TAKE CARE OF THOSE HORSES first – water, feed, hay and fly spray. Breakfast for the riders and saddle up for a ride on the beach. Constable escorts were provided as they crossed the highway to the beach, a necessity. After the beach ride, the girls took a boat ride to Down Under for lunch, then back to the Corral for crafts, a swim in the pond, volley ball, archery, games, and some free time. Oh, don’t forget, TAKE CARE OF THOSE HORSES, before dinner at 6:30pm. Clean tack, horse talk, camp fire with songs, stories and s’mores, bareback relay race in lighted arena at 9 ish and 11pm, lights out.

Sunday, start the day like Saturday, TAKE CARE OF THOSE HORSES, breakfast for the riders – pancakes and sausages – yum! Another saddle up and ride on the beach, then back to the Stables. A game of Hide and Seek (I love this one) – Find all your things and pack up. Snacks and drinks and 1:00pm check out.

What a blast – Happy Trails!

What a breath of fresh air for this area. What a pleasant alternative to the usual I hope the community gets behind these folks and other like them. That bring different events and attractions to our area. Not another trailer park. GOOD JOB, OUR HATS ARE OFF TO YOU GUYS!!
