Don’t Mess With Texas!

Do you notice a problem with this flag display? Perhaps this household is in dire distress or extreme danger. We usually fly our Texas flags with the white stripe on top, therefore positioning the star right-side up…seems appropriate, right?

Don’t Mess With Texas! And don’t mess with the Texas State flag etiquette. The guidelines are numerous and incredibly detailed regarding orientation, hoisting and lowering, positioning, and displaying.

  • When displayed on a flagstaff, the white stripe is above the red stripe. Except if a signal of dire distress, emergency, and extreme danger – then the red stripe is above the white stripe.
  • If displayed on the same flagstaff as the US flag, the US flag is always above the State flag. If flown on separate flagstaffs, the US flag should be higher or of equal height to the State flag.
  • From the perspective of the observer, the US flag is always to the left of other flags.
  • US and State flags should normally only be flown after dawn and taken down before dusk, unless properly illuminated all day and night.
  • They should come down in inclement weather, unless they are weatherproof.
  • Flags should never touch anything beneath it, including the ground.

Our National and State flags are a sign of our freedom, independence, and patriotism. Respect for our flags shows our respect for our country and the great State of Texas. And with July 4th around the corner, there’s NO better time to show patriotism than NOW.
