Eagles Break Ground

The Fraternal Order of Eagles 3719 in Crystal Beach break ground for a building expansion. The groundbreaking and ribbon cutting celebrates the 2500 square foot addition to the existing building. The new expansion will make the Eagles building the same size as it was before Hurricane Ike. It will be named ‘Dr. Peggy and Howard Coghlan Fraternal Order of Eagles Community Center’ in honor of Katie Coghlan’s parents who donated a significant sum to the project. Katie’s mom was a big fan of the Eagles, calling them “The hardest working group I’ve ever seen.” The space will be available to rent for events such as wedding receptions, parties, and family reunions.

Fundraising began two years ago with various activities including bake sales and 50/50 drawings. All Eagles members have participated in some way or another, big and small. One member donated 13 dozen eggs from their chicken coop and they were sold for $1 per dozen. Every little dollar counts.

The Eagles are also selling “Square Footer” plaques to be permanently displayed in the new building. The plaques are available for purchase by individuals with the inscription of your choice. The Eagles hope to complete the expansion debt free by late July, so they are still looking for help. If you wish to donate and/or purchase a Square Footer, please contact Lisa Day, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, 409-543-3364.
