Elfie

By Georgia Osten
Hey Elfie, what do you do all year when you’re not terrorizing young’uns? I recently got to view Elfie through the eyes of a 6 year old, my grandson, big brother to almost 4 year old twin boys. They call Elfie Leon, N-O-E-L backwards. How clever is that? Probably Mommy’s rendition. So, the other night, PawPaw was staying with the boys while Mommy & Daddy went to watch our Arizona State nephew play basketball.

Elfie, aka Leon, was perched on top of one of the Christmas stockings hanging on the mantel. One of the twins ran across the hearth and accidentally knocked Leon out of the stocking. Poor Leon was lying on the floor motionless.

Pierce was so distraught, thinking one of the twins was going to touch Leon and Leon would lose all his powers. Pierce demanded Leon be covered so The Littles wouldn’t mess with him. PawPaw covered Leon with a crate and put a pillow on top of the crate.

After they were fast asleep, PawPaw upended the crate so Leon could fly away to the North Pole. Thank goodness, when the boys awoke the next morning, there was Leon perched on the chandelier in the dining room. I guess he didn’t lose all his powers?!?

I came to finish up the babysitting with my favorite guys after I got off work on Friday. PS. I didn’t forget the jello. Pierce asked me to sit down as he relayed the whole story to me. I didn’t have an answer, just confirmed that everything was fine and life would go on …

We didn’t grow up with Elfie, I mean Our Kids didn’t grow up with Elfie, Santa Claus was enough!

Oh, I have another accounting of Elfie. A friend of mine has a little girl, Vivi, probably the same age as Pierce or a little younger. When Elfie appeared at their house all was well until Vivi began having nightmares. The first night was a bit traumatic, but after the second night of nightmares, Vivi’s Mommy & Daddy sat down with her to try to get to the bottom of the problem. Vivi finally admitted “Elfie CREEPS ME OUT!”

Solution: Elfie was asked politely to go ahead and fly back to the North Pole.

Bye Bye Elfie!

We have a Dachshund that can shake the stuffing out of a log, so you can guess how long the elf lasted at our house. Good thinking on the relocation.
