Fire Departments acquire new safety devices

Fire Departments acquire new safety devicesThe Bolivar Peninsula fire departments are always looking to provide the best equipment to protect the citizens of Bolivar. They recently purchased Safety Air Cushions. These innovative air-inflated life saving devices are designed to catch a human falling or jumping from great heights in the event of an emergency. These devices are used by fire departments throughout the world, so to get them here on the peninsula is monumental. Once inflated and in position, this device can safely soften the fall of a person jumping from the upper floors of their residence. And training firefighters in the proper use of the equipment is essential.

The Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, and High Island fire departments held a training session on Sunday morning at the Crystal Beach Fire Station. Under the guidance of JTS Safety Products instructor John Plauche, firefighters set up and inflated the cushion in a matter of minutes, and demonstrated its use by jumping from the roof of the building. Numerous firefighters participated and everyone seemed to have a good time learning and practicing this new vital skill. Each of the fire departments will have one of the cushions ready to be transported to an emergency.
