Fishy Stories

By Georgia Osten
The fishing trip that almost didn’t happen – Yep, the skies were threatening, but they were out there at Stingaree at 6:16 am, just like Captain Chad told them to be. I slept in another hour before I began making my way out of the house for my weekly shopping trip. I texted the gang thinking they would be under way, 2 or 3 fish under their belts, I mean in their coolers. But no, they were told to hold off for a couple of hours to see if the lightening would cease. And it did. They were able to get out there and catch enough for dinner.

Our friends from Dallas made their annual trip to CB this past weekend. Joe and his Grown Up kids, John and Sarah.

We ate homemade pizza at their house on Friday night, but arrangements had already been made for Joe to cook their catch over at our house on Saturday night. We began with ceviche made from the two flounders. They said Capt. Chad caught those and Man oh Man, were they good! Pictured is the ceviche over half gone, it didn’t take long.

Joe followed up with his culinary skills using Panko on the trout. “Hey, where’s the Panko?” I guess somebody forgot to bring it over, good thing The Big Store is just up the street. Oops, where are the green beans and rice? Must be someone forgot to grab it from over at the other house, we jumped in the car and headed over to Sandy Shores. There’s the bag of beans and rice … no Panko though.

Delicious, I must say, even though it took two loads in the dishwasher to get all the pans and dishes done. Ever notice how when guys cook, they use every utensil and pan and bowl in the house?

We ended with a store-bought chocolate fudge cake from HEB and little dixie cups of Blue Bell vanilla – It was Sarah’s 29th birthday! Happy Birthday Sarah. I think you were at our house last year for your 28th?

We went over for pancakes Sunday morning, Joe was just finishing the bacon, time to find the Bisquick. Well, what do you know? There’s the Bisquick in the box they brought from home, right next to the Panko!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
