FY 2016 Beach User Fee Quarterly Report

sticker_0As the 2016 visitor season is quickly coming upon us and the Beach Parking Sticker Program is going into high gear, we are excited to announce great news from the program. In an effort to be more transparent, we are also excited to say that we will be posting quarterly financial reports and updates. The current report shows the yearly figures for Fiscal Year 2015 which covers October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015. The First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2016 covers October 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. The Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2016 covers January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016.

2016 Beach User Fee Quarterly Report

There have been some changes in the management staff of the program and for possibly the first time since the inception of the program, we have a full staff of 4 Sticker Ambassadors to sell stickers on the beach and to bulk vendors such as stores and real estate offices. We have filled the Parking Sticker Supervisor position and changes made internally will result in a much more efficient program. The new supervisor, Michael Lentz, was the guy selling early bird stickers at The Big Store. He is a go-getter and is enjoying the challenge of building the program and helping to find appropriate uses for the money collected. He will play a vital part in researching and putting together a plan for restrooms for beach visitors. The most exciting news we have is that we will see some of the revenue from the program going back into the beach in the form of additional beach patrol. We have purchased 4 new UTVs that will be equipped with emergency lighting and the Commissioner’s Court has approved to use Beach User Fees to provide 4 additional deputies for up to 29 weekends this year to patrol the beach. These deputies will only work the beach and focus on beach safety, litter, dune protection and parking sticker enforcement. Not only will these deputies be enforcing the laws and rules, but as a preventative measure, they will also be educating visitors about them to help stop problems before they begin. Sales are ahead for this year compared to the same time last year and the 2016 season is off to a great start so expect great things for this program in the future.

Will future quarterly reports include the actual finances? It seems a quarterly report should show balances; how much is coming in & how much is going out. All the plans sound wonderful, but this past holiday weekend I saw one sticker person over the three day weekend on our end of the beach. With record crowds, you might want to place more roll offs?
