GCA serves up gumbo for Bolivar charities

This past Saturday, the Gilchrist Community Association served up over 30 gallons of gumbo to hungry fisherman at Rollover Pass. The Gilchrist Community Association held the gumbo sale as part of their 2nd Annual “Hands Across Bolivar” event. This event is geared towards raising money for local charities on Bolivar Peninsula. Last year, through proceeds from the event, the Gilchrist Community Association was able to donate to the High Island Volunteer Fire Depart, Crystal Beach Fire Department, Port Bolivar Fire Department, and the Constable Bike Program and Community Outreach. This year, we were privileged enough to have GCA Board Member Barbara Reynolds made the gumbo from scratch and it featured chicken, sausage, shrimp, and crab and boy, was it delicious!

The Gilchrist Community Association will meet to decide which charities are the beneficiaries of this year’s Hands Across Bolivar and will be announced later this week.
