All friends and patrons attending the Chamber of Commerce Banquet last week will not likely forget the good humored presentation given by Linda and Marcel Elissalde when awarding the Citizen of the Year distinction to George Strong. It resembled a pep rally with Marcel leading the cheers. The audience loved it. George’s contributions to the community are well known by all.
After a short introduction, Linda began to read each of his accomplishments (there were many), and after each she ended with “Done by ____”, whereupon Marcel lifted the cue card and the audience shouted, “George.”
It was a lively event. George seemed to be somewhat embarrassed but he took it all in fun. Congraqtulations, George, for a well deserved award.

INTRODUCING GEORGE
It is such an honor to be invited to introduce this year’s Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. However, because he is so outstanding, I will need the help of this august body of folk. When my assistant holds up a sign with a name on it, please holler out that name. I will give a clue. He will hold up the name, and we will all shout it out. Ready?
And who helps with Children’s Church because little kids think he’s nice?

Who does Emerald 1 depend upon as their secretary of note,
And as former treasurer of the Bolivar Chamber received majority vote?

Vice President of the Water Board called upon day and night
By loyal residents who query, “Are you sure this bill is added right?

If you need him on a Monday, this is where he can be found
Volunteering at the food truck handing groceries round and round.

To make sure our emergency service and fire departments never come up short.

Who is this acting thespian who is our shining star
When he trods upon the boards as Mirabeau B. Lamar?
Why it’s George?
Who is the citizen extraordinaire for all along the coast,
And the person that all agree, they always trust the most?

You have answered very well. I think that you now have a clue as of whom we speak. George Strong started out in South Dakota and ended up in Crystal Beach. He and his dog Clinton are the welcome wagon for new comers. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University and has a master’s degree from the University of Denver.
George owned and operated George Strong and Associates in Houston. GS&A provided lobbying, campaign consulting, grassroots lobbying and communication services. George served his country as a Major in the US Army.
George is an entrepreneur, raconteur, volunteer – a “Man for All Seasons,” Citizen of the World, And, this year, he is the most deserving recipient of the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” Award.
