Gulf Coast Redfish tour targets Bolivar

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
The Gulf Coast Redfish Tour plans on bringing a BIG Trout Tournament to Stingaree Bait Camp & Marina for its 2013 tournament tour. Gulf Coast Tournament Tour Director, Gene Thornton, visited the Bolivar Peninsula recently targeting an interest in scheduling a series of Speckled Trout events to be held at Stingaree Bait camp & Marina.

Tour Director, Gene Thornton, met with Rick Moyer, manager of Nancy’s Bait Camp and Stingaree Bait Camp & Marina to discuss the possibility of holding a series of three Big Trout tournament events at the Marina during February, March, and April of 2013.

These speckled trout tournaments will be unique in there operations involving hourly big trout weigh-ins. Tournament anglers will be able to weigh-in one (1) trout every hour for fishing tackle and cash awards.

This will be an individual speckled trout tournament event open to all anglers, boating or land based, for one day of competition for artificial or bait fishing anglers. These Big Speckled Trout events are still being negotiated and will be aired on the media as soon as the tournaments are finalized.  But the Gulf Coast Redfish Tour group has another agenda already scheduled which involves a 2013 Team Redfish Tour.

This event begs the question, who will benefit from all those caught fish? Will the director and sponsors insist that all fish not taken for personal consumption be donated to charity or used in a community fish fry? What will Bolivar do if fish are discarded in a smelly pile somewhere? Do Bolivar residents approve of using wildlife resources for corporate commercial gain? Is that legal? Not to rain on the potential tourist parade, but good stewardship of the fishery should be priority. Using our food source in a flippant manner should not be tolerated.
