How did we get here?

Many things cause us to wonder how we got where we are at times in our lives. We look at our job or profession and say, “Is this what I am going to be doing the rest of my life?” We sometimes consider a relationship that we feel “just sort of happened,” and ask ourselves, “Is this what I really want?” “Am I truly committed to this person for better or worse, and how did I get here if I am not?” And, then, “What can I do, or what should I do about it, if I know in my heart it is wrong?”

We think about parental responsibility, the care of elder parents that seem to be losing healthcare battles, personal illness, loss of income, major decisions we must make, education, savings and security, and whatever problems the world is dishing up today.

Hopefully we give time to considering our plans for our own salvation, and that of others, church involvement, service, charity work, generosity, and eternity. No matter where we find ourselves today, God knows exactly where we are, how we got here, and where we are going. He has a plan for each life.

Looking at the practical aspects of how we got here today, let’s consider seven thoughts all beginning with a word starting with the letter “G.”

  1. Growth – Our physical, mental, and emotional health began with our birth from our parents’ union whether good, bad, or indifferent.
  2. God’s will for our lives. It takes many of us much longer to discover God’s will than others. We are sometimes our own biggest hindrance.
  3. Grasp of perception often limits our thinking and causes us to waste valuable time in understanding reality from our own warped vision.
  4. Gratitude for both answered and unanswered prayers.
  5. Genuine passion for service to others. What can we do each day to help someone along life’s way?
  6. Greeting from the Lord – Understanding that we will receive a greeting from the Lord. “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Or, “Depart from me. I never knew you.” What do you want to hear?
  7. Gathering – Are we busy telling others about Christ? Do we fully comprehend the importance of winning souls for all eternity?

We are where we are for a reason. We can serve God and grow as a person. If we realize we are not where we should be, we can change with God’s help. He loves you and I.

Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, “For I know the thoughts I have toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
