I missed the time for planting

According to my Granny…she always told me we needed to plant our vegetable gardens before or on Good Friday. Since Good Friday fell earlier than normal this year, maybe I’m safe. My garden was prepared for me several years ago by my husband “when I just had to have a garden.” It’s probably something like YOUR EYES ARE BIGGER THAN YOUR STOMACH – type of thing. This garden is way bigger than I can even dream of keeping up with. But at least twice a year, I get out there and get the whole darned thing weeded and planted. Actually, I probably wouldn’t have started working on it except I was guilted into it. While we were gone, Ange decided to get in the dirt and began weeding – I’m sure it looked like a challenge to her.

I look at the plants every time I go to town and decided to go ahead and buy some, after all, I figured I could weed a patch, then plant a plant. I figure I’ll buy a few every time I go and by the time I’m through, I’ll have a nice garden – just in time to turn around and weed again. It’s a never ending process.

If anyone knows why I get beautiful plants and flowers, but they never develop into fruit, please let me know. My garden last year produced NOTHING. I take that back, we had okra coming out of our ears. I still have a freezer full.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all this growing stuff, and I love being outside. Right now, my claim to fame is my 3-year old artichoke plant I purchased through Amazon. It finally has an artichoke right smack dab in the middle of my largest plant. I was sick with envy when last week my son-in-law in California showed me his plant that I PURCHASED FOR HIM with 3 artichokes!!
It’s a family thing after all – Come on Camber!!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
