U.S. Veteran James Warren Adams, 71, of Gilchrist, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at his home after a lengthy hospital stay. Warren was born December 20, 1944 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He served his country for nearly seven years in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1963-1969 and worked for many years in the petrochemical industry as a Senior Electrical Designer for both GDS Engineering and SNC Lavalin. Warren and his wife, Pam, owned Fantasea BBQ & Grill and the Last House Standing of Gilchrist. He was a former board member of the Crystal Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Crystal Beach. Warren was a board member of the Gilchrist Community Association.
Warren was a man of many talents, including barbecuing and cooking, boating, building, and singing. He was instrumental in the fight to keep Rollover Pass open after Hurricane Ike. Warren also loved the beach, camping, and spending time with family and friends, and he never met a stranger.
Warren was preceded in death by his father, Wiley Gray Adams; brother, Dennis Adams; and son, Randall Warren Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Adams; mother, Helen Othelle Adams; daughters, Wendy and Barbie Adams; sons, Clayton Adams and Doug McKay; brothers, Mitchell Adams and wife, Demi; Dale Adams and wife, Riva; and Gene Adams; stepchildren, Trina Rodriguez, Aaron Smith, and Kim French; grandchildren: Blake McDonald, James Randall Adams, Tyler Adams, Ashton Rodriguez, Brianna Adams, Savannah French, Kaitlyn Cowan, Jay Cowan, Ty Smith, Brice Smith, and Trevor Smith.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home (3028 Broadway Avenue J, Galveston).
Graveside services will be at 10:45 am, Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Veterans National Cemetery in Houston.
Pallbearers will be Ted Vega, Mitchell Adams, Gene Adams, Dale Adams, Lemmie Peel, and Clayton Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Rodriguez, Sid Johnson, Jesse Taylor, and Darrel Hudspeth.
