Kick Off

Georgia's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
I guess you could call this weekend the official Kick Off to the 37th Texas Crab Festival. The Golf Cart came in! Sponsored by Colby Walters, Swedes Real Estate, and it’s a Beauty! We steered away from the typical Texas Flag design this year for a change. This gas eating Yamaha is metallic blue, drives like a charm, quiet, you can’t hear us coming! By the Way, We’ll be in the Mardi Gras Parade on February 26, yell at us as we slowly pass by. We’ll have beads, koozies and of course, Doggie Treats!

So, Tom and I gathered up the folding table, a couple of clip boards and a $10 bill to get us started selling raffle tickets. The $10 helped, but when the guy came along with a $100 bill, I had to dig in my pockets to make change. Thank goodness for TFB just inside The Big Store!

We probably got out there around 10:30 on Saturday, The Big Store is just up the street from the house, really convenient if we forgot anything (like sunglasses). The store blocked the wind, even though it was a crisp 60 degrees out there, we were quite comfortable, even a little toasty out in the sun. People came by in droves, I think they were happy to see us out there. We did so well, we decided we’d sit out again on Sunday maybe wait ’til around noon.

After a leisurely breakfast at La Playita (our favorite), we cruised the “neighborhood.” Whenever we leave La Playita, we drive down Frenchtown Road. Fascinating to see how far the tide is out, people fishing, finding the perfect oysters, makes you want to get out there and get some crabs! Speaking of, my favorite “crab eating partner” will be with us in March for a bit, you better bet we’re gonna find some crabs. Me and Michael, just leave us alone at the table, we’re gonna have a feast!

Okay, so Sunday, we got to The Big Store around noon and sold until 2:00, the people kept coming. Hey, don’t forget, you buy 10, you get one extra, what a deal! Those $100 bills were flying!

We’re offering selling to anyone who wants to help Texas Crab Festival Charities! Just drop us a line and we’ll get you set up to sell. In the meantime, if you want to buy a raffle ticket on a weekday, the Crab Fest Cart is up at Texas Custom Carts. Feel free to drop by!

Don’t forget to give us a shout at the Mardi Gras Parade!
