Leaving 2019 Behind

By Georgia Osten
As we near the new year, I like to reflect on all the good times we’ve had with family and friends. We’ve made some new friends, but more importantly, the bonds with old friends has become more pronounced. Our outings with family have been greater this year, now that we’re all together again in one state. Precious moments to hold on to, knowing this can’t last forever, but it’s strengthened us as a family.

We’ve been doing a lot of back and forth traveling. The whole family, plus many more, joined for a pre-Christmas dinner at our Son and Daughter-in-Law’s house. It was tamales and gumbo, sausage and chicken, made by a true Cajun. And, yes, there was potato salad with the gumbo!

There’s been plenty of masses to attend, with Christmas and New Year’s Day falling in the middle of the week, seems like we’re going every 3 days or so. It’s okay, I find myself captivated with the Reason for the Season.

We spent Christmas Day with our oldest daughter and family. There were lots of presents to open, some mimosas and of course, blueberry muffins for breakfast. By 4 pm, we were all ready to sit down to a mighty feast of ham, prime rib, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, broccoli and rice casserole, dressing and a variety of pickles. Dessert was a Goode Company Pecan Pie, an apple and a cherry pie made by our granddaughters, Bakers Extraordinaire!

New Year’s Eve will be at our daughter’s house, she’s inviting all of League City! It will be nice to see the whole family once more in 2019, to share a toast to the New Year.

We’ll have friends over for New Year’s Day, share some black-eyed peas, ham, pork tenderloin and cabbage for good luck. What’s for dessert? Hmmmmmmm, we’ll see.

Here’s wishing you all a very Happy New Year, full of prosperity and love.
Be kind to one another.
