Lemonade

I love lemonade, and my friend Shannon has me started on adding tea to my lemonade. I think it is called an Arnold Palmer and it is very good. That is not what this story is about. But you’ll see where I am going. This past week could not have been worse for our State unless it slid off into the Gulf, and I guess parts of it ARE in the Gulf. From one end of the coast, from west to the east of Texas is a mess. But we have never been a State to sit back and cry, “we put on our big girl panties” and start tearing out sheetrock.

Some of us left the beach for higher ground and some of us stayed. Thank-goodness our area was spared compared to others. RR’s sister has somewhere around 5 feet in her house in Katy, she lives alone and was truly scared to death. They sent out a message for parts of Katy to evacuate late in the evening and she had nowhere to go, so our grandson Josh and son-in-law Jason left Santa Fe and found a way to Katy to bring her to safety. Now she is with Rene’ helping her do chores Rene’ hates. I will leave it at that.

Our other daughter in Pearland had water up to the front door but not in the home. They moved furniture just in case, but all is well. Wednesday and Thursday the family helped neighbors rip out carpet and clean up.

We left, and had a very stormy ride on the ferry with our home in tow. All the way through Houston and up to Conroe we had driving rain so we kept going. The rains stopped about Nacogdoches but the lovebugs started about then. By the time we landed in Marshall we had triple layers of those darn things on the truck and the house. Ugh! Oh well, it has given us something to do.

One day this week we traveled over to Tyler to visit my cousin that we have not seen in years and had lunch at a great BBQ place called Stanley’s. We ventured up to Caddo Lake and a town called Uncertain. We had driven through Jefferson but not stopped. That will be another day’s adventure.

We went to Karnack, Texas, to visit Johnny Carson but found the best catfish place called Big Pines Lodge. I know most of you know who Johnny Carson is, so you will understand my “funny”.

We picked up a few travel guides and found a few wineries to visit after Labor Day is over. We have decided to stay here a few weeks because of the water problem at home.

I hope you can find a few things to make lemonade with and try to find the sunshine in all this sadness. Take care! Your tour guide will be back next week with more fun places to visit.

Love and peace.
