Mardi Gras at Festival Park

Saturday was a busy day at Festival Park with the excitement of Mardi Gras filling the chilly air. Thankfully the temperatures didn’t stop the fun – Runners, Vendors, Skydivers, and a Carnival, too. First up in the morning, over sixty runners braved the biting cold to compete in the inaugural Mardi Gras 5k Race. Layered with gloves, hats, and thick socks, the runners were dedicated to the race. The race course was laid out entirely within the grounds of Festival Park to avoid any conflict with the Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras parade to be held later that morning. Walkers and runners completed their morning exercise to then sit back, enjoy the parade, and catch some beads!

Shortly before the parade began, the REMAX Skydiving Team parachuted in flying a huge American flag with them. The cold and wind may have put a damper on the day’s festivities for some, but the supporters showed up and good times were had by all.

While revelers were lining the highway to watch the annual Mardi Gras parade, arts & crafts vendors were setting up their booths under the pavilion at the park. Once the parade show was complete, the post-parade shopping began. And to entertain the young, and young-at-heart, carnival rides and games were in full swing. Let the Good Times Roll!
