My Free Weekend

GO_0614By Georgia Osten
This was one of the first really free weekends we’ve had in quite a while. Let me explain first that my Fridays always seem like the beginning of the weekend to me. It’s the first day of the week that I don’t have to do anything. I usually work Monday through Wednesday, and Thursdays I’ll go into town to shop, which takes up my entire day.

I gardened all day Friday, throwing in 3 more bags of garden soil, 4 bags of coconut and peat moss and another bag of fertilizer. I planted 2 more sweet basils, 2 more tomatoes, another green pepper and another banana pepper. The rain pretty much wiped out everything I had except for the okra.

I had the most fun Saturday morning at the Rain Barrel Workshop at the Fire Station. For $35 and attendance in the class, I brought home a 35 gallon barrel with all the fixtures and instructions I’ll need to create my own rain barrel to water my garden.

The class let out early enough for me to make it over to the Golf Tournament, where my husband was taking pictures. I was just in time to see the winners and enjoy a pulled pork sandwich and an ice cold beer. The weather was great and I added more to my farmer’s tan.

That afternoon, we grabbed some chairs, the canopy and a cooler and headed down to the beach. Our first Beach-Sit of the Summer – and man was it necessary! Siblings joined us for a rousing game of washers, followed by a pondering game of Trivial Pursuit, girls against the guys.

You guessed it – Girls Rule! Boys Drool

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
