New PSP Baseball Field Dedicated

By Bob Currie
Friday, April 12, at 10:30 AM members of the Bolivar Peninsula community met at Gregory Park in Crystal Beach to dedicate the new Peninsula Sports Park (PSP) baseball field. Julie Diaz, Director of Parks and Cultural Services for Galveston County, and Darrell A. Apffel, Galveston County Commissioner, Precinct 1, led the dedication ceremony.

After the first pitch, members of the community signed a commemorative bat and several baseballs. Peanuts and crackerjacks, traditional baseball game fare, were served as well. Local dignitaries in attendance included Ann Willis, Leslie Bell Lowe (PSP Director), William Comeaux (Road and Bridge Commissioner), Travis Allred (and other members of the parks maintenance crew), Richard and Lana Thompson, Carlis Danna Cole, George Parsley, and many others, including the contractor who built the field.

The field will be turned over to PSP under a user agreement. Commissioner Apffel said that a clay infield will be added to the field, and the county will continue to mow the field.
