No Fishing From Bridge

By Linda Elissalde
I was so sad when our beloved Rollover Pass was closed. It provided years of pleasure to many folk. You knew you were really home when you drove over Rollover Bridge. I missed seeing the eponymous Miss Nancy’s Bait Camp! Miss Nancy always received rave reviews because of her kindness and helpfulness. I returned from an out of town trip via HWY 124 and HWY 87. Cruising along admiring the beach landscape, I gasped to see MISS NANCY’S BAIT CAMP with an OPEN flag flying. I slid quickly into the driveway. The person behind me must have been happy too because they honked the whole time they raced by me. They might have been even waving to me.

Nancy Bachman and Mike Blacksher welcomed me into their pristine establishment. I was happy just to see them getting everything ready for guests to our shore. Once again, bait and sundry supplies are available for beach lovers. They showed me plans for a new pier based on Bob Wells Pier in Corpus Christi. Prices will be kept low for those who come to fish on the pier. There are more amenities offered in the plans, and a park will be on the other side of the bridge. While details are still to be worked out, it was grand to see the happiness of Nancy and Mike.

Miss Nancy’s Bait Camp is open Mondays and Thursdays 7:00 – 6:00, Friday and Saturdays 7:00 – 8:00, Sundays 7:00 – 7:00. Is is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. (Miss Nancy does have home chores to do.) Camp phone number is 484 560 9323. It will brighten your day to visit Miss Nancy and Mike even if you do not need any supplies.

Roll Over Pass deserves a historical marker. It is worthy of such remembrance. Oh, yes. One thing has stayed the same. There is still NO FISHING FROM BRIDGE!
