No more sleepless Sunday nights

(Feb-7-2012) As I sit here casually playing Words with Friends, or writing my Sand Bucket, or talking with my kids on the phone, I realize just how relaxed my life has become. Normally, on a Sunday evening, I would begin thinking about waking up early on Monday morning to make it back to Sugar Land to drop Ruby at our ‘city home’ and get ready for work. Anticipating the dreaded trip away from the beach, Sunday night was never a good night’s sleep (even at the beach). Years of working on the other side of Houston, I remember thinking as I parked my car and walked in, “I’ve been doing this for twenty years, walking the same hallways to my office.” I’d work through til Friday, with the excitement weighing on my mind that now I can pack the car, load up Ruby, and head back down to the beach.

My goodness, if I haven’t told y’all before, I sure am happy to be retired and living permanently down here. Everything’s better at the beach!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
