October Birthdays

We do not have a large family where we could celebrate every month for birthdays. We have a few in June, July, way too many in August, and October, and two in November. You saw the fun we had with our first born for her big 50 and I was so proud of her for now being mad at us for celebrating that age. I truly think she did better than I did.

October we have three loved ones who were born, Vickie, RR’s sister, RR’s middle brother and our youngest grandson. Believe it or not, we were all together for a October birthday dinner at Dianne’s home.

Every month of many birthdays we try to celebrate with dinner and a really great cake or pies if the birthday people do not like cake (RR). Because of Harvey, we are running low on places to have these get-togethers. Thank goodness, Dianne has a large home and two ovens and a really nice back yard for those smoking people.

We always try to come up with something to cook that everyone will eat, you see some of these folks are kinda picky. For October we chose Papa’s Daddy burgers, of course, potato salad, chips & dips and baked beans. You would think it was summer with that menu, but to be honest that day was in the 90’s and perfect for burgers. When you have burgers instead of a casserole then you have to work on condiments and some people like swiss cheese and others have to have cheddar, then some want onions, and some want grilled onions, then there are the tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. Next time, Di and I decided we will do casseroles.

Dianne made the best apple nut cake and Emily, Di’s daughter, made pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Di also made a cake for the night, as Matthew was having a few friends over for dinner, and movie, and sleep over. That girl had a very busy day and night.

Believe it are not, all of the family but one grandson was able to attend. He had to work, ya know, even the grandkids are getting older and have commitments.

The ones born in November and December get cheated just a little, as they get Turkey every year for November and Ham for Christmas. As far as I am concerned, those are the best months and the best foods.
