Oh, what a beautiful weekend!

Day 1: The weekend begin Friday morning with a gorgeous sunrise and cool winds that continued throughout the day. The forever young Dr. Wallace Shook turned 96 on September 23, 2021. Wallace and his family celebrated the event on Bolivar Peninsula this week. Dr. Shook showed up on our doorstep at 3:00 PM for his

traditional birthday visit with Marcel and me. This always includes sharing key lime pie along with coffee served up with lots of laughter and reminiscing about family and friends. Wallace Shook’s presence is a special present for us.

Day 2: Saturday our favor “dance to” musician Jamie Bergeron appeared at Brad and Big Rich’s Cajun Chef’s Cook-Off at Festival Park. He and his band performed from 3:00 – 4:30 PM. Their fantastic music kept Marcel and I dancing to every number that we could.

Then we crept home to rest our poor old worn out feet. Our feet were refreshed enough by 6:00 PM to drive over for a 10 star dinner presented by Dr. Melanie and Mack Wallace.

Melanie’s dinners are each a unique experience. She decorates to represent the season, and her made from scratch meals are epicurean delights. Mack is master of the grill. We enjoyed our very first Tomahawk steaks along with so many side dishes that we were moaning. However, that did not stop us from gobbling down Melanie’s homemade Boston Cream Cake. What a yummy ending!

Day 3: Sunday provided another lovely day. Bay Vue UMC Sunday service paid homage to Dr. Shook, held a delightful service, and welcomed two new members. Fellowship followed with visiting in Fellowship Hall. Naturally the serving table groaned with myriad delectable offerings. (Methodists associate fellowship and food as a given.)

Such a fine weekend included a fine evening. Friends Margie Reeves, Nancy Vanos, Paula Dean and Cindy Karlin plan a yearly get-to-gether. This year they chose to revisit our Texas Gulf Coast and rented a place in Beachtown. Margie was kind enough to contact me. She, Nancy, Paula and I were classmates at Lamar State College of Technology, now Lamar University. We met up at Stingaree.

I enjoyed every moment dining with these intelligent, interesting and fun women. If it is true that, “All good things must come to an end,” there could not have been a better finale.

Curly opened OKLAHOMA with “Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin’.” I close the last three days with OH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND!
