OH, what a Night!

By Linda Elissalde
The premier event at The Pavilion At Festival Park was quite a night. PARTY IN THE PARK, Peninsula Sports Park Fundraiser, promised a magical November evening. It certainly delivered. A waxing Gibbons moon and cool temperature augmented with barbecue, dancing, silent and live auctions played to a happy, generous crowd. This first view of The Pavilion was overwhelming.

Country Nights theme played out with each table honoring some aspect of the fundraiser, a boot-scooting dance floor and designated silent and live auctions areas. Adults and children lined up for delectable barbecue, side dishes and desserts. Of course, most everyone went back for more. People wandered around placing big bids on donated silent auction creations.

Children played joyfully inside and outside this beautifully built edifice. A highlight of the evening was youthful presentations from a martial arts group and young gymnasts. Both were rewarded with standing ovations. Mike Powell & Bayou Rush took the stage after a very successful live auction. Young, old, middle-aged and young at heart kicked up their heels to a plethora of popular country and other tunes.

Kudos to Chairperson Leslie Lowe and all the volunteers who pulled together PARTY IN THE PARK. Volunteers included Janie Mayfield and friends. Their decorations created a perfect party atmosphere. Dennis Rollfing and Charles Moseley provided the best Bolivar Peninsula barbeque. Others contributed succulent side dishes and desserts. So many people helped with this award winning successful, fun fundraiser. It raised over $25,000 for Peninsula Sports Park. Attendees agree, “OH, WHAT A NIGHT!”
