Old Friends

By Georgia Osten
I know we’re over 4 months away from the Crab Festival, but I always get excited when all my past Crab Vendors begin contacting me wanting to come back. It’s like family I haven’t seen for a year or so. I guess this is probably going to be my 4th or 5th year, I can’t remember. I begin preparing before the end of the year, concentrating on the food vendors, because I’m only allowed a set amount and I always have an idea of what we need. Here again, I can always depend on the majority to return. Most of them lock in and pay up before the new year. And guess what? They want to be exactly where they were last year in the line up. That’s okay, makes it easier for me.

Of course, we expect plenty of boiled, BBQ and fried crabs. LaPlayita, Jose’s and “G” won’t let me down when it comes to crabs. Just hope Delano and Joe catch plenty and keep ‘em coming! I’m gathering my craft vendors as we speak – Plenty of returns and plenty of new folks. Some were affected by Harvey, trailers ruined, homes ruined, what a tragedy, they won’t be returning this year and they’ll be missed. Anyway, I’m always looking for the unusual and unexpected, but I’m also looking forward to seeing my old friends.

My friend Terry will be handling the beer booth this year, and I’m really excited she took my offer. For goodness sakes, she worked the beer booth probably 90% last year, she’s got the hang of it! The beer booth will be mainly operated by the Lions Club, and all donations go toward the Lions Club. What a fine group of community-focused folks. If you want to volunteer and have the time of your life, give us a shout and we’ll sign you up.

Come May 11-13, I’ll be hanging out between the beer booth and my vendors, hope you’ll come out and say Hi! If you’d like to learn more about the Crab Festival and Crab Festival Charities, go to https://texascrabfestival.org/ and tcfcharities.org

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
