Our Faux Thanksgiving

By Georgia Osten
This year, our family is flying the coup – They’re off to Colorado and Oklahoma. That being said, and feeling a bit sorry for myself, we asked all to come to the beach this past weekend to do our Family Thanksgiving. Being the family I love, they obliged. Out of eight grands, we had six under the age of 11 at the table. The two college kids haven’t been “released” yet.

I took Friday off to begin cooking, happy I did. Admission, I’ve never been that great a cook, and I’m getting worse. The pumpkin pie crust wasn’t cooked through, the dressing was dry and the whole meal took one hour longer than I had planned. Oh well, that’s not the meaning of a Family Thanksgiving anyway, it’s the FAMILY that matters.

Happy am I that it’s done though! Enough of mashed potatoes, dressing and sweet potatoes – give me a big ol’ turkey sandwich with Miracle Whip, potato chips and pickles. That’s another thing I love about Thanksgiving.
As you all prepare for this Thursday, I’ll probably still be eating leftovers and lovin’ it!

We have reservations for a night away and brunch the next day at the Galvez (if we make the wait list). If not, it’s going to be breakfast at the Star Drug Store, that’s eggs benedict.

Here’s wishing you all a very lovely Thanksgiving full of love and family.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
