PB VFD BBQ Cookoff

The Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their 20th Annual BBQ Cookoff on August 16th and 17th. Competitors start cooking on Saturday morning. Cooks will work on everything from brisket and chicken to ribs and beans. Quite a competition! Bean judging will be held at 2 pm, chicken at 3 pm, ribs at 4 pm, and brisket at 5 pm. All grillers and chefs are welcome, “…bring your old smokey or $20,000 smoker.” It is a fun, easy-going event with delicious food, an auction, and raffles – all for a great cause. For the non-competitors, BBQ Dinners will be ready for sale on Saturday from 11am-5:30pm.

Brisket – $75.00 donation per team
Ribs – $25.00 donation per team
Chicken – $25.00 donation per team
Beans – $10.00 donation per team
All Four – $125.00 donation per team

Fun for the Cooks: Beef Fajita Cook-off Friday Night, $20.00

CASH prizes for Brisket winners
First Place: $250.00
Second Place: $150.00
Third Place: $100.00
1st, 2nd, & 3rd place trophies for brisket, chicken, ribs and beans.
We will also award a trophy for showmanship.

COOKOFF RULES

  1. Brisket tagging will begin at 3:00 pm on Friday, Aug 16. Brisket tagging will end at 9:00 am on Saturday, Aug 17.
  2. Briskets must be in original packaging prior to tag in. No pre-marinated briskets allowed.
  3. All briskets, chicken and ribs must be cooked on premises.
  4. Bean judging will be held at 2:00 pm. Chicken judging at 3:00 pm. Rib judging at 4:00 pm and Brisket judging will be held at 5:00 pm.
  5. On site entry fees must be paid by 10 am on Saturday, August 17.
  6. Beans may be cooked off premises.
  7. Siren will sound 10 minutes before each category entry is due at judging station.
  8. No garnishes.
  9. Chicken judging will require one half of a whole chicken (wing tip not necessary).

    Not at all. Besides, David Loop was with the Crystal Beach VFD, not Port Bolivar.
