Pea Soup Day

Wednesday comes along and as you know it is pea soup outside with Fog. Then you add to that the accident in the Gulf so the channel is closed so the Coast Guard can try and find two other men. All ships are stopped from coming into the channel including our cruise ship. RR and I are up at 4:30 every ship day to get ready for work. You know there are showers to take, lunches to make and so on. We are notified every hour when to head to work. RR”s job is on board the ships making sure all are safely off the ship and then all going aboard are greeted and safely on board. So he is there from the time the ship makes port till all passengers are on board. We arrive at work about 7-ish and hope the fog lifts and they find the fishermen. Nope, neither happened, finally the ship made docking about 4:30, the first guest off the ship was about 5pm and by 5:30 we had debarked over a thousand people.

Meanwhile back inside the terminal we have about two thousand guest who are really ready to get their fun at sea under way, if you know what I mean. I will say our corporate headquarters kept our guest informed every hour of the day so they would know what was happening. By 6:40 RR had safely waved to 2,507 off the ship and now it is time to start embark! The first guest on the ship started at 7PM! WOW! With in less than a hour we had over fifteen hundred boarded! Just after 8:30 our team are ready to fight the fog heading home ourselves.

What a team of people I work with. Everyone was very tired but big smiles were on our faces and most of the guest were understanding of the circumstances.

Most places in our country have snow and ice at this time of the year. Not us we get to enjoy FOG! Most people on the gulf coast have no idea what tankers and cruise ships go through.
