Pearl Beach ROCKS!!

pearl-0On Friday, the day before the Pearl Beach Annual Charity BBQ Cookoff, the sun was shining. Neighbors were out on their decks sunbathing, watching as the volunteers began to gather to set up spaces for the event. Giant cookers started arriving a day early to get the best spaces. Let’s get this party started!!! Everything, from the loaves of white bread, sliced onions, cookies, beans, brisket, sausage, boudain, chickens and ribs were donated to feed anybody and everybody who wanted to join in or just stop by. All meats were cooked on the large pit donated by the Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Mike Walz cooked the briskets and Sonny Wong and Jeff Crawford cooked the chicken and sausage. Donations for meals were accepted and generously given. The Boy Scouts, led by their Scout Master, Brian Byrom were on hand, in their protective vests, to lead traffic and guide parking. What a smooth running operation.

On Saturday, April 5th, the skies threatened to let loose, but not a sprinkle happened. Everyone, including the 29 cookers who signed up, had a wonderful time. Jason Flores, aka JJ Sounds, played continuously. The raffle rolled on – All proceeds donated to charity. Two baskets filled with outstanding gifts were raffled off, a Mens’ basket and a Ladies’ basket. The Men’s basket: 2 Crown Royal bottles, beer, rod and reel, lures, igloo cooler, crab festival tickets, signs, jelly, snacks and much more. The Ladies’ basket: 6 bottles of wine, Classy Crystal Cuts hair cut gift card, crab festival tickets, candle holder, wine gift set, cheese server, wine book, chocolates, wine glasses, beach sign, Igloo beach bag, and much more. A rustic outdoor cooler donated by Cunningham Gas and a neon beer sign were also raffled.

What’s a party without Harlan “Bigfoot” Hatcher? Yep, he was there, barefoot as usual, selling his autographed T-shirts and posing for photos. Also, what’s a party without Lucy? Lucy and her Jello Shots? Oh my goodness, “pack a punch” Jello Shots! Catch Lucy, pictured below.

Of course, let’s not forget, it was a REAL BBQ Cookoff, these fantastic, out of this world rigs, cookers who have competed all over Texas, including the Houston Livestock Rodeo. The judging for ribs began at 1:30 and the judging for brisket at 3:30. Right after the raffle, at about 5pm, the winners of the Cookoff were announced and presented with their trophies. Winners pictured below.

We already more than tripled what this Cookoff brought in last year – All for Charity. This little subdivision consisting of only 3 streets, not just one person, but a neighborhood, gathered together for this charity event – here’s to you Lone Star Survivor Foundation. Be proud Pearl Beach!

Sounds like a guy I work with.

I’m looking for a gentlemen that was cooking at the tournament on Saturday, who stopped in at the Tiki Bar later that day for dinner, and he let me try his LandShark Beer. We had a great conversation, but I didn’t get his phone number.
He was wearing a light green/teal shirt, cowboy had, shorts and flip flops and had a salt/pepper goatee.
One of his friends was wearing shows that resembled boots.
If you could help me locate him I would apprecite it.
    Thank you
