Pet registration available online

Online dog and cat registration is now available for those living in unincorporated Galveston county, Bayou Vista, Clear Lake Shores, Dickinson, Hitchcock, Kemah, La Marque, Santa Fe, Texas City and Tiki Island. According to municipal codes in these communities pets must be properly registered. The Galveston County Health District’s Animal Services has added a new feature to their www.arcpets.org website where pet owners can purchase new or renew existing registrations for their pets via the internet.

“We are thrilled that this important service is now available online. We see many dogs and cats come through the Animal Resource Center that have clearly been cared for, but arrive here with no identification and no way to return them to their owner”, said Amber Adams, Animal Services Manager.

According to officials there are several good reasons to register pets. First, the registration tag shows that the pet is properly vaccinated for rabies and that the pet is not homeless. Also, it is required by law to register your pets. Registration also greatly helps in reuniting lost pets with their families.

In order to use the online service, pet owners will need a current rabies vaccination certificate and a credit card. Once the registration is processed it will be mailed to the pet owner’s home in approximately two weeks. In addition to online, registrations can also be purchased by mail, or in person at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center at 3412 Loop 197, Texas City, Texas 77591. Registration ID should be worn by registered pets at all time and in most municipalities must be renewed each year.
