Pietramale Carries Wong and Pettit to Scramble Victory

By Mike VanZandt
Jason Pettit and King “Sonny” Wong drew Ray Pietramale for their third and final player in Sunday’s scramble and were ecstatic with the results. Pietramale’s hot putter and laser short game fueled a 4 under par 32 that edged five other teams by two and three shots. In a playoff for second place money were all-time Ranch leading money winner Shannon O’Brien, Bob Brown, Hoss Strimple, and hole-in-one specialist Will Armstrong. O’Brien’s team edged Par-3 wizard Michael Comeaux, Sonny Makin, and Joe Ball in a sudden death chip-off from one hundred yards. Hoss Strimple stuck a sand wedge to four feet on the first chip to seal the win for his team. Tied for fourth place were Mike Mitchell, Lance Ferguson and Bob Jackson at 35. Dabney Harrison Dewey Jones, and Roy Strimple also were one under par. Roy Strimple eagled the Par 5 ninth hole on his own Sunday, almost holing out for an albatross deuce when his second shot slid inches past the hole. Sweet Charlie Brannan and John Snell couldn’t overcome teammate Mike VanZandt’s horrendous play and also finished at one under par.

John Milby tied his own course record with a stunning one under par from the turquoise tees on Thursday to win most of the skins money and the low score cash. Milby, showing no ill effects from his three missed two foot putts on Tuesday, had eight pars and a birdie on the traditionally long Thursday Par-3 layout. Michael Comeaux was two shots back with a fine one over par 28.
