POLAR EXPRESS Volunteers Needed

The Galveston Railroad Museum is hosting the POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride this holiday season, with rides scheduled on weekends through November and December. At this time, all tickets are sold out, but they are looking for volunteers to help during all the performances. The show dates are November 15-17, 22-24, 27 and 29-30; and December 1, 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 23, and 26-29.

Each performance night will consist of 3 train rides per night at 5:00 pm, 6:45 pm and 8:30 pm and a matinee on Sundays at 3:15pm. Each show is 1 hour long on an actual moving train. There will be actors on each of the 6 trains, the depot and the courtyard. Each train ride will have hot cocoa and a cookie for each rider. Santa will come on each train, greet every child and give each rider a bell, the first gift of Christmas. The volunteers will be behind the scenes making hot cocoa, stuffing cooking in paper sleeves, making sure the cocoa and cookies get to each train on time for the ride at the right temperature. There will be a volunteer on each train to pour the cocoa in cups with lids and have everything ready to go for the actors to distribute.

Other volunteer positions will be parking lot ushers and gate ushers. These people will help in the drop-offs, VIP parking directions as to where to park, directions to the gate as well as handicap parking.

Also needed are volunteers for ticket takers, lobby ushers, train boarding ushers (6), gift shop and restroom entrances and exits.

There is an audition for actors on September 21 and 22, Saturday and Sunday. At this time, you may come, meet the staff and production crew and learn about volunteering for this event. Information on the time and place to follow.

Thursday, November 14 will be a “dress rehearsal”. It will involve all employees and volunteers. Gift shop, ticket office and all will be open for business, just like it was the real show.

The museum is prepared to pay certain independent leaders to head committees. There is going to be a handout to each guest with mention of your organization in it. Plus, they are willing to give your organization a sizable donation.

We are pleased to provide this opportunity for us to work together. We are looking forward to working with you and together, provide a successful show for Galveston and surrounding areas.

Very disheartening that tickets are sold out every year.

    Please consider more dates.
