Rio Carnival on Bolivar

The 2022 Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras Parade heated up the peninsula on Saturday. Though temperatures were in the 40s with a brisk north wind, the paraders lined the highway ready to celebrate another Mardi Gras. Decorated vehicles, golf carts, small and large floats were all adorned under the “Rio Carnival” theme – colorful, lights, sounds, and beads…lots of beads! The paraders started lining up at 8am at the new Bolivar Beach Club & RV Park. This year, Bolivar Beach Club officials judged the entries beginning around 10am and announced the winners before the parade began. With layers of warm clothing and plenty of Mardi Gras cheer, the parade was underway by 11:30, heading down Hwy 87. The highway was sprinkled with excited children and adults ready to catch something good while watching the dazzling displays roll by.

A special Thank You goes to the Lighthouse Krewe, all the paraders on floats and participants on the ground, and Bolivar Beach Club for hosting the starting venue. Let The Good Times Roll!
