Roy Vanburn Brewer

brewerFuneral services for Roy Vanburn Brewer, age 81, of Rusk were held on March 29, 2014 in First Baptist Church in Rusk with Rev. Donnie Barron, Rev. Don Copeland and Rev. Don Richey officiating. Mr. Brewer passed away March 26, 2014 at his residence. He was born September 14, 1932 in Weatherford, TX to the late Clyde V. and Orean Evans Brewer Sr. Mr. Brewer was a Rusk native and retired back to Rusk in 1994. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rusk and was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX and a founding member of Heritage Park Baptist Church in Friendswood, TX. Mr. Brewer was a member of the Young Mens Business League in Beaumont and a member of the 1950 Lon Morris State Champion basketball team. He also served 9 years in the Texas National Guard and was a board member of the Cherokee Civic Theater in Rusk. Mr. Brewer loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, the beach, spending time with friends and family and playing dominos.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his three daughters, Clara E. Burns Brewer. He is survived by his wife, Jean Harlan Brewer of Rusk, four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Brewer Bartro and husband Steve of Dickinson, TX, Pam Brewer Gault and husband Allen of Rusk, Pat Brewer Carter and husband Milton, of Cleveland, TX, Amanda Burnett of Pearland, TX, brothers, Clyde V. and wife Gloria Brewer Jr. of Pickton, TX, Jimmy H. and wife Joy Brewer of Moore, Oklahoma, sister, Linda Gibson and husband Tommy of Rusk, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers included Steve Bartro, Milton Carter, Cody Bartro, Matthew Carter, Mark Flanigan and Michael Green. Honorary pallbearers- Allen Gault, Johnny Bufford, Bo Ousley and Sue Ousley Chandler.
