This is something that I wish I would have known about when I built my beach house! I have a house full of dogs and having this gate would have been a great way to keep them in the utility room when we are gone or have company over. I love my babies but not everyone likes a dog jumping on them! The dogs would still be able to look out and not feel so closed in. As you can see this is a pocket door that slides into the wall and takes up less room than a conventional door. For safety, I would have added more slats and not used the glass panes that are shown in the picture. I have always loved pocket doors in older homes and this is the perfect way to protect our pets and children. 
Another place for this sliding door would be at the top of your stairs so a young child will not accidentally fall. I need to look to see if there is anyway I can add this to my home! LOVE IT!
Here is an easy way to make your Thanksgiving dinner have that beachy feel. Each of us that are lucky enough to have a home on the beach, have a lot to be thankful for. Bringing your family and friends together at this time of year is so important. This easy to make centerpiece can be adapted to your own table. Any glass vase will work and the main Thanksgiving element is the orange candle and some nuts put in with seashells! Just put sand into the bottom of a clear vase or even a jar. 
Add seashells, whole nuts and then surround the vase with various shells and starfish on the table. Add some small colorful gourds with the seashells and you have a beautiful table that represents the bounty we are all celebrating and the sea that we love! (click on picture for larger view).
