Santa and Mrs. Claus came to town

Santa and Mrs Claus came to town, making their rounds before the big journey on Christmas Eve. They visit the Peninsula every year for the Crystaland Parade. The Bolivar Chamber of Commerce invites Santa each year to lead the parade and spend the evening with the town to spread holiday cheer. Kris Kringle and his wife started the parade at the fire station and cruised down Crystal Beach Road to the beach with a merry line of floats in tow. The crowds on the beach admired the lights and welcomed the presents being tossed out from Santa’s big red sack. Santa and Mrs. Claus led the parade back to the fire station, waving to the children and parents along the way. They continued to greet everyone and smile with rosy cheeks for photographs with the anxious children. The kids told the Jolly Old Elf what they hoped for for Christmas, as Santa mentally finalized his Nice List. Meanwhile, the Lighthouse Krewe Elves treated everyone to hot dogs and refreshments. And in due time, Santa and Mrs Claus reported back to the North Pole to prepare for the big circle around the globe. After all, there are only a few more days until Christmas.

A special thanks to Brenda and Mac McDonald, Linda and Greg Hollier for judging the floats; Sherry Morgan and Georgia Osten for organizing the event and purchasing trophies; George Strong for checking in and lining up the floats; Larry and Brenda Flanagan for pulling the Lions Club float with Santa & Mrs. Claus aboard; The Lighthouse Krewe for donating and preparing all the food and drinks; the Crystal Beach VFD for allowing the use of their building; Constable Chris Smith for leading the parade; and, our always funny and talented emcee, Larry Flanagan.
