Santa Land at the Big Store

Santaland at the Big StoreBy Linda Elissalde,
It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas when Santa Claus landed at The Big Store (aka Gulf Coast Market). All the elves were at the ready when Santa took his place in effervescent Santa Land. Numerous boys, and girls and young hearted adults, directed by elf Kathy Dodds, lined up to whisper in Santa’s ear. Talented head elf Shelley Harris was in charge of The Big Store Christmas party this year. Everyone was dazzled when they entered Santa Land porthole where they were welcomed with bags of presents, a gift laden Christmoose and Santa Claus seated in the center. Other elves stepped right up to assist with organizing, handing out gifts, and heading folk toward elf Larry Netterville’s refreshment area. Copious quantities of cookies, juices and candy canes tempted people to ignore any diet plans for the holidays.

Elf Michelle Bolin greeted guests and directed them on their path to Santa Claus. Frisky assisting elves frolicked among groceries and gifts. Elves Karen Nations, Sharon, Stacey Nations and Buffy Dibel enchanted all around the place. Jo Della Netterville (What The Elf?) and B. The Elf set a new standard for elf hood.

However, who did everyone want to meet? Santa Claus of course. Santa, close friend of Michael Stark, came all the way from Hampshire, Texas so he could hear the wishes of Bolivar Peninsula patrons. Although Mr. Claus is very, very busy with Trinity Church and many other engagements, he wouldn’t miss out being on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Overheard were the Jones Family telling Santa they would like Barbie animals, Barbies, Hatchables, and a real live puppy. Other folk requests included hair bows, Legos, and more puppies. David Hernandez was thrilled with his gift of a stuffed boxer dog whom he quickly christened Duggie, The Boxer. Pierce Osten smiled with a big, “Cheese,” as he posed with Maezy his gift puppy.

Yondle Davis from Houston, Texas, Mary Raney, Jim Vratis, and owner Keith Zahar were among the adult visitors to speak with Mr. Claus. One month old Kelsie Arrowood had the honor of being the youngest to sit on Santa’s lap.

Santa eventually leaped to his sleigh for he had many more places to visit. With a mighty, “Ho, ho, ho,” and a gladsome, “Merry Christmas to all,” he headed out to his other assignments. We can’t wait for Santa Claus to return to Santa Land again next year!

and no one is too old to have their picture taken with Santa
