I love plantation shutters. Even in a home that is not on the beach it adds the flavor of the tropics. The shutters in this picture are very similar to ones that we had in our room in Maui recently. They are on tracks and slide to either side to completely open or close over the windows. Many of us have large windows so we can take advantage of the view and end up thinking our only choice is blinds. These are a great option and make you feel like you are living on a deserted island. Another thing that draws this room to me is the use of taupe and brown on the couch with some blue pillows. Everything in this room is very geometric even the sides of the coffee table and the rug. 
This color combination of blue and brown is one of my favorites. Note how the frame of the couch is one color and the pillows are another. It has become common now to find couches in the stores that give you the choice of different fabrics and colors. Even the lamp adds that bit of blue that looks great with the couch. The palm leaves and the rope covered vase both add to that tropical feel. Ahhh, the breeze is great!
“HOW TO” …
This weeks project is an easy to make mirror using any frameless mirror and finger starfish can be used anywhere in you home as an accent. Lowes and Home Depot both have frameless mirrors in stock and I have seen them at Target so they are easy to find. 
As far as the finger starfish, there are several on-line companies where you can buy them in bulk. This project is very simple to do. The first thing you do is to start on the mirror itself right on the edge and glue the starfish with E6000. Mix up the sizes so as you layer them it will be more interesting. This is a project where you can use as few or as many starfish as you would like. I would suggest you make at least 3 layers to get the texture to really show!
