Stick a Fork in Me

Georgia's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
Well, it was a whirlwind weekend around our beach house. With three little guys ages 7 and under, we were kept quite busy. I call them “The Littles.” The three youngest of our Grands, Pierce, Riggs and Fisher. To say they’re energetic doesn’t do them justice. We got them on Friday evening, thank goodness for Tombstone Pizza, pop it in the oven and lickety-split, it’s done and being devoured by 3 hungry boys. You may be asking yourself, “Did you make Jello Grandma?” Well, of course, none other than red Jello.

It didn’t take the boys any time to pull out all the toys into the living room in front of the TV. I insisted on pictures first in front of the Christmas Tree. My how times have changed, I remember not too many years ago, I had to barricade the tree. Now, even though they’re still very curious, they still touch, but very carefully. They want to see all the ornaments, especially their very own, the ones with their names on them. Just like the older Grands, they love and remember their own decorations. The Littles brought me a present too, some very pretty, fragile, sea creatures to hang on the tree, a hermit crab, a flamingo and a clown fish.

Instead of a bath, why not a hot tub swim ? Aahhh!

Look who showed up Saturday morning, Leon, the Elf on the Shelf. How did he find these kids all the way at the beach. I guess he had to check up on them to make sure they were being good. Pierce warned us “we can’t touch Leon, if you touch him, he’ll lose his powers.”

Saturday morning began with donuts from Dannay’s, and they remembered to bring back a cinnamon roll for Grandma. By 10:00 we had to rush out of the house to see Santa #1 at the Eagles. Santa and Mrs. Claus handed out gifts, candies and a candy cane with a $5 attached. Oh my goodness!

Next, we headed over to The Big Store to see Santa #2. Goodness Gracious! More goodies, stuffed animals, and airplanes. We dumped everything out on the dining table when we got home, lunch first, then have at it!

By 5:00 we were layering up to brave the beach so we could watch the Crystaland Parade! Mr. Dennis and Mr. Robert were already building the campfire when we pulled up. Thank goodness for the warmth of the fire. The parade began with Crystal Beach Fire trucks and all the ambulances from the 3 fire departments, jeeps, beautiful floats, music and people throwing out candy and beads. But the first float was Santa #3 and Mrs. Claus in the lovely sleigh-designed float Big Daddy built last year. The parade headed east for a few barrels, then turned around and came back by. We had to empty our pockets from all the goodies being thrown out.

Back to the Fire Station after the parade to wait in line to see Santa #3 and Mrs. Claus, it was a long wait, but well worth it!

Got home and dumped more goodies onto the dining room table, boy, won’t Mommy and Daddy be happy to go through all this stuff!

PawPaw made his famous pancakes for breakfast on Sunday morning, and everybody took a long ride on the beach and ran those pancakes off. Then, off to Galveston to meet Daddy for lunch at Yaga’s. We could tell The Littles were a bit exhausted, but we kept on moving on, Grandma had shopping to do. Tina’s, Gracies and La King’s, oh my!

Bye, Bye, My Boys, until the next time. You wore us out, but I think the feeling was mutual.
