Stingaree Saltwater Slam

Slam_00The Stingaree Saltwater Slam Fishing Tournament is an annual event brought to the community by the Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club. Fourteen teams participated in this year’s event, benefiting the Youth of Bolivar through Scholarships! The anglers were greeted with perfect fishing conditions as they pushed off in the early hours. While the teams were out in pursuit of a Bolivar Slam, the Children’s Tournament got underway at Stingaree Marina.

Story: Huge turnout for Kid’s Tournament

As the fishing teams began arriving for weigh in, Down Under started filling up with hungry anglers and curious spectators. Several sizable stringers were brought in, and almost half of the teams recorded a Slam (trout, redfish, and flounder). The winning team turned in a 25 lb. 3 oz. stringer, only 3 oz. more than second place. Third place came in at 24 lb. 6oz. See the winners below. A special congratulations to Brenda Rincon (pictured below), who fished by herself, in the surf, and turned in a respectable 12 lb. 12 oz. stringer of fish. “I didn’t have a boat, but I still wanted to be part of the tournament,” said Brenda.

Thanks to the community, many items were donated for a rousing live auction, adding to the scholarship fund to help worthy students on the Peninsula. Thank you all for participating and we hope you will join us again next year. Give yourselves a mighty pat on the back!
